This is a resin replica of a small rattlesnake on his way to being a big rattlesnake. This baby is about 3" high and about 4" at the widest point.

 

Shortly after my honeymoon, I took my new bride to my family reunion way out in West Texas. After a pleasant late afternoon stroll down a dusty sand road, we were headed back to the old farm house when we came up on a little rattlesnake about the size of this one in the middle of the road. Wanting to impress my new wife, I quickly whipped out my Browning High Power pistol with plans on ending the snake's career. After an extended gun battle, the only thing that was wounded was my pride. I found that it is hard to hit a fast moving target the size of your little finger with a 9mm slug. Having exhausted my ammo, I had to limp back to camp and face the crowd who had heard all the shooting. The incident has taken firm root in my family lore and the story is re-told to each generation. I came to the conclusion that when it comes to snakes, a garden hoe is the superior weapon.
